WHO ARE YOU, AND WHO IS THIS FUND FOR?
My name is Lindsay Levin. Those of you who know me know that I'm a Kindermusik teacher with no kids of my own. (Just in case you want to verify that I'm a real person, you can check out my website, www.eastbaykindermusik.com.) What you may not know is that I've spent the last year helping to rehabilitate a young lady who has been fleeing a history of child and sexual abuse that occurred in her home country. To protect her identity, I'll call her "Faye"*.
WHAT'S YOUR GOAL?
I'm trying to raise $3500 to pay for Faye's* Spring 2016 semester of college. We have an offline donor who is willing to donate $1000 toward this goal as long as we can raise the other $2500 ourselves.
WHO IS FAYE*?
The most important thing to know is that Faye* is a real person. She is bright, bubbly, and very sweet despite all that she has been through.
WHAT HAS FAYE DONE TO HELP HERSELF?
Faye worked extremely hard to get into the U.S. on an F-1 student visa, even securing the assistance of an immigration lawyer. She's been able to get into college and pay for her first year (with some extra help from my very generous father). I was afraid to let her attend college by herself since she experiences fainting, panic attacks, and flashbacks as a result of the abuse she suffered at the hands of her brother and father since the age of 4. Faye came up with an amazing solution when she watched this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=0y_a_V1QD3U To help raise funds, Faye helped create this GoFundMe campaign. She is also looking for work this summer to help pay her way as well. (She can only work a few hours a week, though, under the limitations of her student visa.) Faye has also been using her talent for photography as a way to help herself cope and see the beauty in the world, and donors who give at least $50 can get a signed copy of one of her original photos!
SO, DID FAYE GET A SERVICE DOG?
She did, and he's awesome! So far, the service dog, "Bear"** has kept Faye safe when she's been in public, and when she's had any health issues here at home, he has come downstairs to alert me that she was unwell.
CAN FAYE SUCCEED IN COLLEGE?
Heck yes! Faye is taking a full load this semester and is doing great. In fact, she's getting A's in most of her classes! We just need a little extra help with the tuition so that we can make sure Faye is able to continue with school and stay in the country.
WHY IS FAYE SO AWESOME?
Faye is awesome because she works hard and has a great character. If you help Faye, I KNOW that she will go on to help others. Faye has made a conscious decision to be kind to others so as not to be like her attackers. She is bright, funny, and compassionate. She hopes to establish a scholarship fund for others who are trying to transcend their abuse and lead happy, fulfilling lives.
