Stories with a Heartbeat

Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Beloved Community,

We are writing to ask for your support. During the month of March we will be taking time off of work, volunteering our services, and traveling to Palestine, Jordan, and Turkey to document the transformative work of the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF)  and the Syrian American Medical Society (SAMS) through our new initiative, Stories with a Heartbeat .

All the money we raise will be used to help cover our basic expenses during the volunteer trip, and all additional funds will be donated directly to PCRF and SAMS.

Stories with a Heartbeat documents the experience of medical professionals and their patients through creative, engaging, and dynamic storytelling. The humanitarian situation in Palestine and Syria is reaching a crisis point and requires immediate assistance, attention, and support. PCRF and SAMS are two impactful, reputable, and remarkable organizations providing life-sustaining and life-saving services to the Palestinian and Syrian people in the midst of complex and violent conflicts.

This project will support these two humanitarian organizations and provide them with valuable documentation assistance, in the form of poetically infused written and photographic creative products that can be used to support their missions, advocacy, and development efforts.

Your contribution to our project will be used to help cover our modest expenses during this month-long volunteer trip including travel, lodging, and food. All funds raised beyond our expenses will be donated directly to the two organizations.

We believe the doctor-patient relationship provides a uniquely powerful opportunity to explore the spectrum of the human condition ranging from resilience to despair, beauty to struggle, and life to death. These stories, rooted in the agency of individuals, provide a point of connection in a world full of disconnects, and represent an opportunity to build bridges of understanding across lines of difference.

Our work has been featured on National Public Radio, American Public Media, Al Jazeera English, at the National Storytelling Festival, TED conferences, and numerous universities and international performance venues.

With your support, we can provide these two humanitarian organizations with vital assistance and continue to engage with local, national, and international audiences on these time sensitive and globally critical issues.

Thanks so much!
