Help for a Family in Need

Please help….

My name is Deborah Ratliff and I’m asking for assistance for a very dear friend.

My friend lives in an apartment which is in horrible shape. The ceiling is cracking with mold. The vinyl is turning black, and there are rats. For four years, she has dealt with various issues around the apartment, always being promised by the landlord the issues would be fixed, but things are getting worse. When the rats first appeared, the landlord did little to eradicate them, but finally they went away. Now the rats are back, much worse than before. The picture shows the damage they’re doing to the apartment. At this time, her grandchildren are afraid to visit and she is in fear they could be bitten if they did.

In addition, through all of this, my friend's very old van went caput and could not be repaired, forcing her to purchase another vehicle, which means car payments. She gave up everything that was not a necessity to afford this car so she can work to support her family, as she is a single parent she is the sole source of income.

Her health is precarious. She has had two strokes and a heart oblation in the last few years. When she became ill in November, missing work, she arranged a payment plan with her landlord, to help her get her back on her feet. She has been meeting those payments but because of the continued complaints about rats, they are trying to force her out of her home. She told them she had a rat run at her at the top of the stairs, and she almost fell, hitting her knee, but they were more concerned about the carpet being eaten by these rodents than her safety. She is not able to come up with the money to secure another residence. She needs help raising the money, so she can find another place to live. She has only ten days to come up with the money or be homeless. This is causing her great stress, and she does not have any other avenues to turn to.

My friend is a wonderful person. In better days, she took in high-risk foster kids, helping them believe there are people who care for other people and are willing to go out of their way to help them. Every day she works with patients, making their lives a little brighter. Now she is the one who needs help. Please, can you find it in your heart to help my friend save her apartment until she can move to a healthier environment, one where her small grandkids can once again spend time with her?

I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
