NEW CANULA at HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FEST

NEW CANULA is a Reno original. Written by Reno resident Gary Cremeans, the play debuted in the Biggest Little Theatre Festival at Bruka Theatre in November 2014. Bruka Theatre produced it again with an independent run in March 2015, then once more in the Biggest Little Theatre Festival in November 2015.
New Canula features “Bull” (David Simpson), a bank robber on the run who invades the home of J Dubbs ( Cremeans), a desperate loner intent on ending it all following the death of his beloved Grandma Betty, his only cheerleader in the game of life, which he is losing, badly. Hilarity ensues as the two discover they may have more in common than they would have imagined, and as bad as things may seem, there is always hope for the future…
Having received much acclaim and support from the local theater community here in Reno, New Canula is entered into the NYC Fringe Festival and will be performing in the Hollywood Fringe Festival June 18th through the 25th in Los Angeles. “ It is too funny to be a drama, and too serious to be a comedy, kudos to ambitious playwright Gary Cremeans for his self-described ‘dramedy’”- Joseph Galata….. ” This serious story is mixed with humor-displacing the discomfort of a sensitive issue with room for hope..”- Kathy Grimm.
We are honored to represent Reno and our local Art community in these out-of-town venues, spreading the word that Reno is an Art destination.
Special thanks to Mary Bennett of Bruka Theatre, and especially the amazing Mary Ann Bennett, who coined the phrase “New Canula”, and was of singular inspiration to the playwright. Thank you, MAB…
