I NO LONGER NEED FUND, I HAVE REACHED MY FUNDRAISING GOAL!!!!! THANK YOU FOR DONATING AND THANK YOU FOR WANTING TO DONATE! AS SOON AS I FIGURE OUT HOW TO CANCEL THIS ACCOUNT I WILL.... GRACIAS!!!!
My name is Yadira Diaz Ramirez, and I am a student at UC Santa Cruz. I am currently raising money through Go Fund Me in order to be able to take part in the annual vigil outside the gates of Fort Benning, Georgia, to stand up for human rights in Latin America, and demand the closure of the School of the Americas
As a student of Latin American Studies and Politics I have learned what the training at the School of the Americas has resulted in - soldiers and police trained at the base have utilized their "skills" to violate the human rights of the people of my country and throughout Latin America - including torture, disappearances, and murder. It is well known that graduates of the SOA have repressed unions, native communities, and other groups that attempt to organize against the exploitative policies of the ruling elites and multinational corporations. These atrocities continue to occur, and for this reason I am passionately involved in the SOAW cause. Being part of the demonstration will not only be self-empowering for a latina student, but it will also allow me to build on the activism and work that I wish to continue the rest of my life.
I cannot take part in the vigil without the support of the Santa Cruz, and California communities, and I humbly ask that you donate to help me get to Georgia later this week, and forward on this email to others that may be interested. No amount is too small:
