Beaconsfield Community House

Donation protected
Beaconsfield Community House is set to loose all funding to say open in March 2017, Through discussions with local community members we have been made aware that the residents group that run a play scheme and community bingo from the Beaconsfield Centre are desperate to not see the building be sold or closed.

Neo has been working within the Rock Ferry area for 12months now and know that there is a massive need to have the Rock Ferry food hub as a permeant fixture within the area, offering a constant offer rather than a pop up offer.

These proposals to develop the centre will see a full programme of community-led activities and engagement programmes.  The main focus for activities will be to tackle social poverty issues within the area.  The centre is situated within an area of depravation that sits in a semi industrial/commercial and residential region.

Community benefits

Neo have developed some understanding of the needs of the local community and a number of the activities we have already provided at the centre reflect this and the proposed activities which we would want to add to over time.

Additional community benefits include:

Providing social interaction and combating isolation
Promoting healthy well being and fitness
Consult and engage the wider community in key decision making process

Our first objective for the area is to tackle food poverty whilst increasing knowledge of health and wellbeing through a surplus food kitchen, development and introduction of a social supermarket and crisis store bags, as a team we know these projects work well as we have been successfully running such for over 33 months in the Leasowe area and 12 months in Rock Ferry, we have also been engaging with local primary schools in the past 6 months offering cooking classes, food support and other pop up events.

We want to see the Beaconsfield Community House become a focal point for the community and to provide an effective, reliable, affordable, friendly community led/centred service. We aim to attract other facilities, services and develop partnerships that deliver real community benefits and also to support the annual running costs of the building.

Neo cafe has been operating a ‘social supermarket’ once a week within the community house allowing people to purchase with a donation good quality surplus food bought from 'FareShare’ Liverpool, local allotments and other surplus from many local stores.  We have been running a community “Bread and Fruit Basket” which again is done through collecting surplus from Tesco Bidston Moss, who have offered amazing support to the community house even spending the day working with the volunteers to support a community fun day.

We are passionate about educating communities on cooking on a budget and introducing vegetables into children’s meals.  We would like to be able to lead on introducing more local retailers into donating both to ourselves and other local organisations but feel we would need to do this with a network of local organisations as it is to support much more than just our projects. We also realise the importance of education through food which is why we have world food days introducing local people to other cultures and different foods that they may not experience.

Neo Community Cafe’s vision and passion is to improve health and wellbeing, develop skills and opportunities, reduce social isolation within the community and provide positive outcomes for young people, through a community centred approach.

We have created a project called “SEAD” which is a Neo Community Cafe's Empowerment and Social Action programme.  This programme offers communities the tools and knowledge to build self-sustainable long-term solutions to the issues that so many of our local areas face.  Community action and the importance of volunteers is then realised and valued within these areas improving both the children’s access to nutritious food and activity as well as supporting local adults with valuable transferable employment skills and experience.   This is part of what we would like to deliver in the Rock Ferry area.

Neo Community Cafe is a community focused organisation that understands and realises the importance of volunteers and know that without volunteers much of our valuable work and projects would not be possible.
