A musician and best friend in need!
My plea for your help...
I've started this campaign to ask for your help for my best friend, (brother) Darryl Keith Pugh (Darryl Keith), recently diagnosed with cancer. Over the course of the past few weeks, we've all been waiting, hoping, praying that the results of recent biopsies would be negative, however, not to be.
Many of you know Darryl as the entertainer, musician, artist or teacher, all of which comprise parts of who this man is along with so much more. To me, for the past 20+ years, Darryl's been the brother I never had, present in times of life's celebrations and when things haven't gone exactly as planned. The one who received the phone calls at all hours of the night when I've needed a hand, an ear or a ride home from a police station over and hour away after an accident one late night. Never judging, critical or harsh, a man with a heart as large as anyone else I know.
Like us, many of you are artists as well, and I don't need to tell you that the medical benefits and retirement packages, well - hardly exist, if at all. In times of need, we are left wondering about the uncertainty of what will happen, how we will be able to meet the basic obligations of life, support our families and when trouble of this nature were to strike, simply, how will we survive? Of course there will be medical bills, but before even addressing that, the upcoming surgery will not allow Darryl to perform, or work for an uncertain period of time. There will be basic needs that we can help with, right now. Allowing him to keep his home, healthy foods and other downright basic needs. These basic needs left unattended can produce a fear that can be paralyzing. I know... I've experienced it - still am from being struck by an inattentive driver in October 2013. It's horrible and this where I am asking for your help. We as a community can make a definite difference and truly have an impact on the wellbeing of another. We can remove some of the uncertainty - allowing him to stay focused on simply getting well. If I could do it alone, I would, in a heartbeat!
Doing battle against the big "C" is at best, extremely difficult under the best of circumstances, requiring all available resources, physical, mental and emotional and the support of loved ones, immediate and extended families - everyone! Doing so when also having to worry about maintaining the basic necessities of life, well I'm sure you can imagine, any distraction from the focus of getting well, is limiting in every sense.
So I'm asking, knowing that times are difficult for many of us, but I'm asking what would you do? Help me remove the uncertainty of maintaining the basic necessities allowing for Darryl's full energy to be focused on getting well. Please, dig deep, every contribution will help, but do please help us with something. I would do the same for you and will should the need ever arise.
