Pre-Earthquake: early 2015

After the Earthquake: April 26th, 2015

Greetings:

We are raising money for Hotel Sherpa's View Point that was destroyed in the recent April 25th, 2015 earthquake.  Here is a message we received from the lodge owners' daughter, Tsezi, on April 27th, 2015:

"My mom & dad have put so much effort in building our home and hotel.  But it is all messed up in 45 seconds. The other houses in the next village are damaged and  the  house above ours (to the left in the picture) was destroyed.  We were just starting our new life after our previous house caught on fire several years ago.  After struggling for so long we built our house and lodge 2 years ago and now it has all collapsed. It is not in condition to live.... and needs to be rebuilt from the base.  I am worried about my mother."
(See pictures of the family below)

Everyone is unharmed at this point, but her mother, Fumu, had to run out of the house barefoot in order to survive.

The Hotel Sherpa's View Point in Thadakosi village (about 10 minutes south of Ghat and about 3-4 hour walk from Lukla) is owned and operated by Fumu Yangzum Sherpa, her husband Mingma Nuru Sherpa, & their daughter Tsezi Sherpa (pictured below). It is located in the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal directly off the trail that leads to Namche Bazaar and Everest Base Camp.  Many travelers from all over the world have stayed at the Hotel Sherpa View Point on their way up or down from their adventures. While we are also raising funds for parts of Nepal through other, established organizations, we have bonded with this beautiful Sherpa family during our stay in the Khumbu in 2013 and we have been touched by their particular tragic story.  They were still in the process of recovering from a devastating village fire when the earthquake struck.

                                     Mingma Nuru Sherpa

We met and befriended Mingma, Fumu, & Tsezi in late 2013  while we were hiking from the village of Jiri to Gokyo and then Chekhung before descending to Lukla.  During our travels  we made friends with Dan & Will Cliff, a father/son duo from California who hired Mingma as their guide.  Mingma is incredibly friendly and warm and he "adopted" us as we were without a guide in the upper Khumbu.  He and his family showed us nothing but generosity and kindness when we arrived at their lodge in Thadakosi several days later.  We want to directly raise funds to help them rebuild.  The lodge was built in early 2013 and it was pristine with the warmest hospitality and most delicous food in the Solu Khumbu.  The entire family invested their hearts and lives in providing the best experience for their guests.  Although we became close with many other Nepalis during our time in their beautiful country, we are reaching out particularly on behalf of Mingma, Fumu, and Tsezi--wonderful people who deserve a miracle.

As you can see from the photos posted above the entire foundation and the first floor, where the rooms were located, was destroyed. The top floor where the kitchen, dining room, patio, and family 's private room are located were badly damaged and the lodge is currently uninhabitable as it is at risk of total collapse due to the several aftershocks rippling through the area.  Mingma, Fumu, & Tsezi Sherpa desperatly need donations to help them rebuild.  In addition this family, like many families in Nepal, require assistance for basic supplies, clothing, food, and funding for building supplies and sanitation. Here is more information on how your donations will be distributed:

100% of your donations made to this particular gofundme site will be distributed directly to Fumu Yangzum Sherpa, her husband Mingma Nuru Sherpa, & their daughter Tsezi Sherpa. These donations will help them rebuild their lives & the Hotel Sherpa View Point and provide immediate assistance with basic needs including building supplies, food, clothing, temporary shelter, sanitary supplies, & medical supplies. The donations will be sent by wire transfer or paypal. If this is not possible then we will travel to Nepal to distribute 100% of the donations in person to the Sherpa family in Thadadkosi.  Although we are raising money for other charities, this particular site's donations are going to the family mentioned above only.

In this region of the world, no roads exist in or out of the remote villages, everything has to be carried in.  In addition to visiting Thadakosi we hope to travel back to Nepal to visit isolated villages in the Gauri Shankar Conservation area, & Solu Khumbu region with hopes delivering supplies & to photo/video document the conditions of current village life then distribute information to charitable organizations to help coordinate relief efforts for these villages.

Thank you for your time and generosity!
