(S)he: A Bequest

Hello friends!

This year for my Birthday I have set up a GoFundMe for the show Annelise Nielsen and I have been collaborating on since 2018.

If you’ve been following either of us on social media for the past 3 years or so, you have probably seen us talking up the show we’ve been developing: (S)he: A Bequest.

She follows the story of a non-binary artist whose primary medium is dance as she/they begins to find themselves outside of their PTSD. The audience is taken along for the journey through the medium of storytelling as we follow She's quest to find her truth as she invokes their inner strength to become fully human and fully divine; to heal herself.

A multidisciplinary journey in 3 parts, (S)he: A Bequest follows a troupe of actors telling their story of breaking free from the chains placed on so many through social constructs meant to bind us to this earthly human existence we call life.

Through the mediums of a full script, original choreography, and an original score composed by Fonder and Neilsen; (S)he: A Bequest tackles the subject matter of working through PTSD in a non threatening way that allows the audience to begin to understand the concept through the characters journeys rather than reading a case study or asking a friend to explain their condition to them.

After 3 years of writing, composing, and readings with a small group of NY’s finest multidisciplinary artists; Fonder and Nielsen are ready to workshop their piece in the big apple and abroad. Fonder and Nielsen have pulled directly from their own familial and personal traumas from childhood neglect and abandonment, to sexual abuse in order to create a piece based in truth and painted in a light that gives voice to those who have also felt voiceless or ignored by their societies/families.

That’s where you come in!

We have been dutifully applying for grants to be able to pay our actors for their time and craft, but because neither writer was able to be a permanent resident of NY during the pandemic; we have hit a snag in acquiring the necessary funding.

If you are able to donate, we would greatly welcome and wholeheartedly appreciate your help.

This show has been our ship in the storm, and we sincerely hope that it will do the same for others once we are able to share it with the greater NY area and eventually the world.

Fonder and Nielsen greatly identify with the Greek theatre model. We believe in crafting theatre that can be utilized as a way to unify and provide catharsis for the people who attend. Theatre is for the audience, and we intend to keep it that way.

Now more than ever have we seen a rise in global trauma. If you already suffered from the effects of PTSD, this year has undoubtedly triggered your condition in some capacity or another. If you did not previously have a form of PTSD, you have most likely in fact suffered in some capacity during this pandemic and may now identify as a person who is riddled by/finding ways to overcome the psychological condition.

We thank you for considering to donate, donating, or offering your support by sharing our GoFundMe with friends and family of your own!

Thank you for your time, and we look forward to sharing this piece of theatre with you sooner rather than later.

Endless Blessings,

Hannah Marie Fonder & Annelise Ambrose Nielsen
