I'm reaching out for help with my book, "Keira & the Stinky Flowers" -- a story inspired by a real child!
"Keira and the Stinky Flowers" is a picture book for children 3-8 about a heroine who shines in adversity with the help of her outcast friends. My book is for that audience wants original, family-oriented fiction with strong girl characters and timeless lessons.
THE STORY
Keira is a spirited girl who gets into trouble for sneaking out of the orphange to search for treasures to give to her own forever family someday. When the king invites Keira's village to a party at the palace, she slips off to the enchanted forest in search of an extraordinary treasure for the king -- a treasure she's heard is hidden inside the stinky flowers. But she soon learns no one would dare bring the stinky flowers to a party. When there's a problem at the king's party, Keira realizes the stinky flowers may be the only way to fix things! Keira's risky plan will change her future forever.
BIO
I worked as a TV news reporter after earning a Masters in Journalism from Northwestern University but I've always wanted to tell children's stories. Growing up in a mostly white small town, I often felt like a misfit so I wanted to write stories where they shine and don't necessarily win by fighting. This is my first picture book and was inspired by a child who told me, "No one likes smelly flowers."
