Shar's Army: Breast Cancer Battle!

Donation protected
Meet Sharlene, my niece.  At first glance, you would see a young woman who is dark haired, pretty, and not very imposing.  She is a devoted Christian woman, with a quick smile and sparkly eyes. But what do you find down deep at the very core of her?  What would you think if I told you she wears a bullet proof vest to work, partnering with police to help the mentally challenged?  You have to admire any person, much less a young woman, who is dedicated enough to wear a bullet proof vest to go do their job.  So underneath that demure exterior of hers beats a warriors heart, a spine bent with determination, and resolve to do good in this world.  She's only 33...and now faces the biggest battle of her life: she has an aggressive breast cancer.

This devastating diagnosis was received on her 33rd birthday, mere weeks after joyfully announcing her pregnancy.  After two previous miscarriages, this baby was so precious to her that Shar chose a path more dangerous to herself, but safer for the baby:  keep him and undergo a lighter chemo until he was born.  So one mastectomy, numerous chemo treatments and the accompanying tests and side effects later, the baby’s birth drew near.  And in spite of the scary specter of cancer hovering in the near shadows, Shar found a lot to smile about...what she thought was a loving relationship, the baby coming soon, and her mom now close by.

Ah, but life wasn’t done giving Sharlene battles to fight.  Just after reaching her 9th month, her boyfriend informed her that because she has cancer plus the possibility of problems that could develop with the baby, all that was just too much for him to deal with.  So he felt it best for her to move out of the home.  Wow, what a guy, right?  I can’t even imagine the impact Shar felt from that low blow.  And to make matters worse, shortly after little Zachary was born, small but healthy, the ex-boyfriend is suing for custody, and this despite generous visitations Shar has allowed and her willingness to keep the peace between them for their son’s sake.

At a time when many would have lost hope, Sharlene has remained faithful that God will see her through these trials.  Her courage, bravery, and strength continue to amaze her family and friends. She was, and is, fighting for two lives.  Life has given her a lot to shoulder.  Lawyers and cancer cost a lot of money, even when you have insurance.  She hasn’t asked for much help, so I am asking for her.  I am not living close to Shar right now, and most of her immediate family is far away from her.  Physically, we can’t help.  But if we can raise some money to aid with the financial issues, it can do nothing but lift some of that terrible weight off her shoulders.  In this world where we care for battered dogs, cats, and life of all kinds, isn’t it right to care and help one beleaguered woman who has been dealt such a rough hand?  I ask you to become a warrior in Shar’s Army and help her fight the good fight.  Even the smallest donation will help, and it will be greatly appreciated.  Send your prayers to this faithful girl, who is continuing to see the optimistic side of life despite the storm clouds hanging over her head.  No one should have to fight alone. No one.  I give you heartfelt thanks and appreciation for whatever you can do.  Love to you all, Aunt Jude.
