Four of my very dear friends lost everything they had last night due to a tragic fire. Monique Serra, her two children Brielle and Bryce Murphy, and her sister Michele Serra Swihart were able to slip out of their home next to the Hoover Company on 1/1/15 and sit in their car as they watched every item they had burn. If you look at the home, you can see it tried to fight the fire; as the frame of the home is still intact. But since the fire started in the basement and traveled all the way to the top floor, this lovely family has nothing now. I live close to them, and heard the sirens roar, but then they went silent. As I opened my front door, I could smell the smoke and see the lights. I jumped in my car praying that nobody was hurt, and thats when I saw them. Everyone piled in a little car as they watched it all. The kids were in their pajamas, with no shoes on their feet. They didn't have time to grab their coats or shoes. Their dog was safe in the car, but tragically they lost two of their cats and the third hasn't been found.
I have known this family since 1998 when I started working at Hosner Carpet One and I can say without a doubt you will never meet a more caring, loving, funny, positive, optimistic family. Just a single woman and her sister trying to make it in this world to provide for her two children, and now they have nothing.
January 1, 2015. What a way to start out the new year. I saw this happen right before my very eyes last night just before 9:00 p.m. What is left now is a cold, wet, shell of a home with its insides destroyed. The doors and windows are boarded up, with no life inside it.
And with a heavy heart and not much to give, I am asking that everyone that reads this help them and bind together to give whatever you can. With no insurance and living paycheck to paycheck you can only imagine what these four individuals are feeling on this cord morning.
Thank you for your time, caring, and God bless all of you.
