College tuition

Growing up on an island I quickly found out that there is not much to do in the winter months. The majority of the stores, restaurants, and movie theaters close in mid-October. Throughout my childhood, the only media I was exposed to was watching movies on VHS or listening to music on a yellow Sony Walkman CD player. Since elementary school, I have had an interest in filmmaking and how music accompanies it.

I started making short films when I attended a film lab at the University of Rhode Island in 9th grade. The whole process of filmmaking is long and tedious, but that is what I enjoy about it the most. The goal of the film lab was to create a minute film, everything from brainstorming, storyboarding, location scouting, filming, and editing took about six hours to complete. The first thing I learned about filmmaking was learning how to collaborate my ideas with other people.

I have been accepted into Columbia College of Chicago. This school boasts it's filmmaking program. Filmmaking is a hard field to get into because it is very competitive. However, Columbia focuses on not only the aspects of the film but also making connections and networking with people. Students also have the opportunity to have an internship at a studio in Hollywood their senior year. This ensures that students who graduate will be put on the path to a job and career in filmmaking. Also, Chicago is a beautiful city. I have never been but I have dreamed of living there. What I have read about the city is that it is the third largest in the U.S. and boasts huge diversity. From the Chicago style blues to it's famous Chicago style pizza, this city has everything. Growing up in a small town on a small island has isolated me from a lot of things as well. I would love to travel and experience the business of the city.   I want to major in filmmaking. Unfortunately, college prices have been increasing by the minute (or so it seems) I would greatly appreciate anything you are able to donate to my tuition.
