Josh's Masters Degree
Hello, my name is Josh. I am currently studying abroad at the University of Glasgow, where I was recently accepted into a one year Masters program for Software Development. I am pre-med and on track to attend medical school beginning in the Fall of 2016. This program will take place during my gap year before then.
While my ultimate goal is to become a physician, I also have a passion for computer science, and would like to work on novel design opportunities created by recent advances in augmented reality, virtual reality, and touch (haptic) input within the context of healthcare. I am particularly interested in exploring the use of these technologies in the treatment of individuals that are physically and/or mentally disadvantaged (e.g., blind people, the elderly, and stroke patients).
The Computing Science Department at University of Glasgow has a strong focus on Human-Computer Interactions, and there are multiple faculty members working within said field as it relates to healthcare. One of these faculty members-Dr. Stephen Brewster- has agreed to supervise my thesis.
I am not asking for the full cost of tuition. I am simply trying to make the program affordable. Scholarship for non-EU students is scarce in the UK. The University has awarded me £5000 (~$7500) for academic excellence and personal achievement, however I need closer to £10,000 in order for this to be feasible.
I would greatly appreciate any donations (large or small). My dream is not only to be a physician, but to meaningfully contribute to my field. Your donation can help me do just that.
