Next Steps for Mia

Mia is my five-year old daughter. She has autism, one hundred and thirty-one allergies, and thirty-eight other conditions. But, she knows that I am Mom, that I love her. She can give of herself so tenderly, heart-on-her-sleeve tender. She says she loves me, her eyes, her smile, her laugh, and with words. For an autistic child, that’s a tremendous thing.

Since 2011, my family has tracked down, piece-by-piece, the medical treatments and therapies that have helped Mia improve so much. At that time, Mia was constantly sick because of her many allergies. Her cognitive and motor skills could not develop like most children. Her public outings were all but restricted to doctor’s visits and trips to Emergency Rooms.

Now Mia’s medications are reduced. Her behavioral and motor skills are starting to close the gap with her peers; however, this is no time to breathe a sigh of relief. That will result in Mia's regression, back into sickness and lengthy, high-volume, self-harming tantrums. We have to keep searching, find more pieces to help Mia reach for and aspire to her dreams. And, there has to be a way to pay for it.

We came this far by the Grace of God and much work:
1. Gaining knowledge of treatments and therapies that help Mia by
a. Attending events
b. Collaborating and advocating with other parents
2. Finding entrepreneurial ways to help support my family. For example, one of her physicians is a  $500/hour out of pocket expense

Our need is $3,500 for two people to attend the Autism Education Conference, September 25 – 27, Dallas Texas.
- Find and talk to experts to help with Mia’s allergen-limited diet
- Join in question and answer sessions with noted and experienced physicians
- Advocate and collaborate through social media
- Connect with exhibitors and publishers
