Support Howard Kammerer: Help Cover His Living Expenses During a Difficult Time

My name is Howard Kammerer, also known online as Red Jacobson, and I'm reaching out for support during a challenging phase in my life. Since mid-2020, I have been unable to work due to a series of unfortunate events. I was driving for Lyft, which was my main source of income, until my car broke down. The timing chain failed, leading to costly repairs that I couldn’t afford. Just as I was trying to recover from that setback, my community was hit by 15 tornadoes in a single day, devastating our area and leaving many without power for nearly a week.

As if that wasn’t enough, with the onset of COVID-19, my income dwindled drastically. I was fortunate to receive assistance from family, but they, too, have their own financial responsibilities. In 2021, I initiated the process to apply for Veterans Administration (VA) Disability after learning from a friend about the benefits he received. I was approved for 50% disability in 2023, which provides some relief of around $1,000 a month, but it still falls short of covering my living expenses.

Currently, I am appealing to increase my disability rating to 100%. Unfortunately, my claim was denied, so I am navigating the court system in hopes of a positive outcome. In addition to my financial challenges, I struggle with severe sleep apnea, and the CPAP machine I need isn’t effective because of dental issues. The cost for necessary dental work is astonishing—over $40,000—even with military discounts, which my VA medical coverage does not cover.

I live with family and contribute to rent, but my disability income is stretched thin with bills and groceries. I have Type Two Diabetes, which has forced me to change my diet and manage higher grocery costs. I estimate that I need an additional $250 a week to cover my expenses and daily necessities.

Estimated Costs

Monthly Rent $750

Savings Goal for Dental Work: $200 a Month

Bills: $700 approximately

Groceries and other necessities: $400 approximately

So my monthly living expenses, outside of my monthly rent, are about $1,000 - $1,500.

If you can help by donating or sharing my story, it would mean the world to me. Every bit of support counts and helps me focus on my health and recovery without the constant worry about finances.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for any support you can offer.
