Afrika Town Breakfast Program

Donation protected

Karibu! (welcome)

Keep the Afrika Town free breakfast/lunch program alive! Afrika Town has been serving free, hot, healthy breakfasts for our community, alongside fresh greens from the Afrika Town Garden.  We have fed thousands of people, supporting the survival of Afrikans and Indigenous folks in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. Volunteers have been paying out of pocket to keep this program alive, and are in need of funds to keep it going.  The Afrika Town community food program survives entirely on individual donations, and its a struggle every month to keep it pushing forward.  All of the donations we recieve go to paying rent in the community center annexed to the garden, and we have no budget for running our programs like the free breakfast/lunch.  Please throw in so we can keep our food-program alive and nourish our neighborhood.

What is Afrika Town?

Afrika Town was created to give Afrikans living in Oakland, a connection to our motherland in the midst of gentrification... We seek a refuge from capitalism, a reprieve from colonization, a counterculture to white supremacy. Autonomy for the Afrikan in america must be fought for so we must provide ourselves with sustainable communities, an economic system not based on exploitation. Afrika Town was our first step at attaining autonomy in this zone. We do our best to maintain these community feeds, and we also offer various workshops like gardening and political education classes, just to name a few. We are a community-based group whose funding comes directly from ourselves, which is a strain on us because of the lack of resources that we possess,

We are asking for any help that you can provide.

You can recieve live updates if you follow our twitter page, @AfrikaTown, where there are many photos representing Afrika Town and the Afrika Town Garden, Or contact us directly through the community center, at (510) [phone redacted].

The funds donated would be used for food and supplies, and here is our list:

. breakfast/lunch meals: pancake mix, eggs, sausage links, chicken wings, sauces, bread, juices. *All the fresh greens come directly from the #AfrikaTownGarden.
. charcoal for the grill, lighter fluid.
