I need help to fight for my brilliant, funny, sweet, beautiful little girl, who is one of the nicest and most fun people I've ever met, with a breathtaking emotional acuity that I respect deeply.
In the summer of 2013 my beautiful, brilliant, (then) six year-old daughter told me that a family member had done some things to her that were unwelcome, inappropriate, and should never happen to a child. The police and Child Protective Services were immediately contacted and an investigation took place. NOTHING was ruled out. Sadly, her father does not believe her and when he has her he continues to force her to see the family member in question.
I am now fighting a messy custody battle. He offered me full custody as long as I would allow my daughter to see the family member she accused of the wrong-doing, he’s called her a liar in court documentation and is doing everything possible to make me appear dangerously unstable.
The current custody order requires me to send my daughter to her father each summer, where he then forces her to spend time around this family member. Psychiatric evaluators have said that she is now suffering from PTSD. I am so scared for my daughter and I need to help her. This will also tear my family apart, as my daughter won't see her brother all summer; they're incredibly close, and the trauma to both of them will be massive.
I need to help my daughter but my funds are limited and this is turning into a legal nightmare. In addition to paying attorney fees, I also have to pay for high-level psychiatric and developmental evaluators for myself and my daughter, as I now have to do everything in my power to disprove their allegations that I’m a bad parent.
My daughter is currently in court-ordered therapy (with a very good therapist) and attends a weekly social skills therapy group. She is scared and anxious, and I just wish I could do more. I’m a single mom and on top of everything else I was recently laid off, leaving the other side in an even better situation.
It's frustrating to realize that every problem I have right now can literally be solved with money (and a suitable application of razor-toothed lawyers). I desperately need your help to keep my daughter safe and with me, rather than in another state, forced to live with someone who won’t even let her call him “Daddy”.
