Help Save the B.B. Comer Bridge
Donation protected
Opened in 1930, the B.B. Comer Bridge is the last of 15 memorial bridges authorizd during the term of Alabama Governot Bibb Graves under the State Toll Bridge Act of 1927. The bridge officially opened on August 2, 1930 and on September 29, 1936 the tolls were lifted. The bridge is scheduled for demolition soon after the new span crossing the river is completed. The Comer Bridge Foundation was formed to seek a way to preserve this historic structure and convert it to pedestrian and recreational use. Time is short and we are asking for help to raise funds to assure the local governing authorities that we can support this bridge without asking those governments to assume any financial liability. Please help us save "The Last Grand Dame on the Tennessee River."
