Sookie's Pneumonia Treatment

Donation protected
About two weeks ago, Sookie underwent surgery to get one of her eyes removed. It was really difficult emotionally for me, and even more difficult for her. It needed to come out because it caused great pain for her and could also get infected, which would've probably killed her.

Last week was her follow up where I told the vet that she had been wheezing and was concerned. He said she was ok. Less than a week later she became ill and couldn't breathe. She hasn't eaten or had any water on her own since Saturday, Feb 7. I rushed her to another vet that confirmed my suspisions: she had pneumonia. Pneumonia isn't good for any animal (or person) but it's very deadly in small animals. She explained that they caught it early enough to treat and that she would need to stay there for nebulizer treatments and other such things. The bill would be over $600. Especially since I already have to pay for her surgery (over $1,000) which will be hard enough for me. I can't afford another 600 on top of that. Once upon a time, I would've been able to but life really likes to throw lemons at people. I  had to choose to take a risk. Take her home with some medication and hope for the best or let her get the treatment she needs to survive this.

It's been a day since she's been home and has not improved. I think she's even getting worse. It's extremely difficult to watch your baby suffer and struggle to breathe and to not know whether she will survive the rest of the day or night while you sleep. I've had to feed her baby food and water through a syringe since she is so weak. She can survive this, but it will take more that what I currently have.

Normally, I would never do this. I don't like asking people for money no matter how much I need it. I'd rather deal with it myself. But I only have a part-time job at the moment which makes it hard to pay for all my bills and now her illness. I'm dilligently looking for another and have some good leads but I won't know for sure until later this week or the next. Sookie can't wait that long. She needs treatment ASAP.

Yes, she's only a hedgehog, but I love her like she was my own child. I've had her since she was a baby and I love her more than life itself. I don't want to see her die because I couldn't afford to help her.

Every little bit helps and as a thank you,  everyone who donates will get a piece of artwork from me. You can choose whether you want a print or an original piece.
