Pass the hat over here. You're probably being bombarded by several good causes in need of your help, scrolling down your newsfeed in a cascading blur of pixels. Well, I'm about to add my own two cents into the mix in that hopes that you'll add yours.
Let me give you a brief history lesson and then let me show you some figures. It'll only take a minute, I promise.
In 2009, I got accepted into the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). In 2011, due to familial, personal, and financial struggles, I had to take a leave of absence. I returned to my home in Rhode Island, vowing to take care of things and eventually return to my studies. It's been just about five years now.
I've worked every job in the book - from cleaning toilets to serving fast food at a zoo, to making floral arrangements and swiping student ID cards at lunchtime and a few others in between. I've worn so many starchy uniforms! Now, this isn't sad - its given me character, I think. Nobody ever roots for the protagonist if they've "had it all" since the beginning, right? My point is, while these are all valid means to make a (meager) living, they are not positions in a field that I am passionate about. I make stuff because yes, the world needs another artist.
I owe the In-House Collections department at SAIC $2,085.67 before I can re-enroll. SO - I'm just asking for people to help me put a dent in that and I'll be crossing my fingers while doing some grant writing, scholarship searching, and overall, hard working. Anything else will go directly to help paying tuition, so I can graduate with less debt. Help me finish what I started.
