Our beloved Samantha is battling a rare form of cancer called Granulosa Cell Carcinoma of the Ovaries for ten years. Sam has had six major surgeries as of February 17th 2015. A lot of time has been spent in and out of hospitals, post operation treatments, and recovery.
Our family and Samantha refuse to accept the fact that she may be on borrowed time, so our fight continues with increasing expenses such as experimental drug treatments, hospital care, extensive travel, and all other associated charges above and beyond our insurance coverage.
There is little known about this devastating disease. Less than one percent of ovarian cancers are Granulosa Cell tumors, and surgery is the most effective way of removing or slowing the growth of these tumors. Samantha has had so many surgeries in a short period of time that they have begun to take a toll on her as well as our family. Being a stage four survivor is a true blessing for all of us.
Since 2004, Samantha has had a Hysterectomy (Ovary Removal), Appendectomy (Appendix Removal), Splenectomy (Spleen Removal), Partial Hepatectomy (Partial Liver Removal), Cholecystectomy (Gallbladder Removal), plus other procedures. Samantha is a fighter and a hero to everyone she knows.
Most doctors in our hometown have very little knowledge of this form of cancer, which requires us to travel to San Francisco four hours away for medical options and procedures.
After each surgery, Samantha returns home for extensive post-op experimental chemotherapy treatments with Doxil, Avastin, and other estrogen blockers. The treatments and surgery only come with a 50/50 chance of success. These are the best odds we can pray for.
Samantha puts other people first and is always willing to help those in need. We have friends and family all across the United States, and we are left in a position where Sam needs help from others in order to give her the best chance at living a full and healthy life.
She is a very strong, determined, and motivated mother and wife, and with your help we would like to give her the opportunity to continue her fight as we know she will.
