Sadie & Carly's Medical Month

Donation protected
Having a chronic illness isn't easy, and it's definitely not cheap. I'm often on a month-to-month budget and a lot of irregular health costs have really derailed my April.

I got the bill for my colonoscopy (the screening test I need at least every 2 years to check on my Crohn's disease and watch for colon cancer) $115.

My normally extremely healthy girl bunny, Sadie, was really sick this month. In fact, Sadie is normally so healthy that this January I signed my boy bunny, Domino, up for pet insurance, but didn't take out a policy for her, too. A visit to the vet this month resulted in an X-ray showing her bladder extremely full of sediment - what's known as sludge. It's painful and probably causing a bladder infection. She got IV fluids, a diuretic to help her flush the sludge, and an antibiotic.

I was just in Chicago representing patients at HIMSS (a huge health IT conference with over 43,000 industry folks, but nearly 0 patients). The trip was made possible by HISTalk, who provided a travel stipend and admission.

The huge event was very taxing, and despite my best efforts at self-care and pacing, I ended up in the emergency room at the local Chicago hospital where I spent nearly 5 hours sobbing and puking while TVs blared and drug seekers screamed obscenities.

Today was my first full day back home and I ended up having to leave work early to bring Miss Sadie back to the vet. She was in severe pain all day, didn't eat or drink, and hiding in the bathroom instead of relaxing in the living room with Domino. The vet repeated the course of IV fluids and diuretic. I got the vet to throw in something for her pain, too. I spent my Friday night hanging with her in the bathroom while she struggled to pee out more sludge.

I don't have a final tally, so I rounded down. I feel uncomfortable asking for help now, especially for a pet, but friends encouraged me to set up a page so they could donate. You can also send me a donation directly through PayPal to avoid the small processing fee this site takes. Thank you for your time, your love, your prayers/good vibes, and if you choose to, thank you for your financial help. <3
