Usama's tumor - medical expenses

My husband, filmmaker Usama Alshaibi, was just diagnosed with two Keratocystic odontogenic tumors in his face, along the jawbone. They are agressive but not cancerous. They must be removed to prevent further damage to his bone and healthy tissue.
His insurance will not pay the cost of the necessary CT scan prior to surgery. And Usama will be out of commission for a bit following the surgery. His job at CU-Boulder is coming to an end in two weeks and I have only a part-time job while I care for our 3-year-old daughter. We have no savings, but will be selling off a lot of our belongings in coming weeks. We are heading into a dire financial situation, made more strained by this new medical issue. Usama is currently applying for teaching jobs all over the world, but has not been hired yet and this summer is very uncertain. He JUST earned his MFA which opens up new possibilities for the future. But the present is feeling a bit bleak. We know this is temporary, and we are staying positive, but it is stressful none-the-less.
We are asking for help to pay for the cost of the scan, and a few small expenses cropping up at the time of the surgery. The minimum we need is $1000 (though more would give Usama peace of mind and take some of the pressure off of him while he searches for work and heals).
We are grateful for any amount you can offer. We'd much rather be doing fundraising for films at this point, but this is an unexpected issue and we are in a desperate situation.
