2015 Coach Lisek Park Program

My name is Julie Arseneault, and I am the director of the Northwestern Community Youth Center ("The Center").  Each year, The Center sponsors the Coach Lisek Summer Park Program at the Albion Borough Park.  During the program, students entering grades K-6 are invited enjoy a free lunch through the state's SummerFoods program and then participate in our sports, reading, arts and crafts, math, and nature programs as well as enjoying a snack and a ride on Albion's historic carousel.  The afternoon ends with a cold popsicle as parents arrive to collect their children.  The Park Program is staffed by adult volunteers, many of whom are either current or retired staff from the Northwestern School District, as well as teen volunteers who act as group leaders, assisting groups moving safely from station to station.

Because this program is offered for free to any student in the Northwestern School District, the cost comes out of The Center's budget.  The past several years, our numbers have increased, necessitating an extra session with the travelling zoo (a day all the kids look forward to with anticipation), additional craft supplies, more snacks, popsicles, ice, cups, and napkins, and additional books to refresh our current selection (through our partnership with Free Books, we are able to obtain new selections at $0.75/book). We are excited to see the program continue to grow, and would gratefully accept any donation - no matter how small! - to improving the program for our students.
