My wonderful rabbit and emotional support animal, Robbie, is sick. A few weeks ago, part of his eyes started swelling. We took him to a vet who gave us an anti-imflammatory to use, but it did nothing. Late at night on May 20th, he started breathing rapidly. Actually he was hyperventilating, breathing so fast I couldn't even count his breaths per minute.
We took him to the emergency room, and we waited there nearly all night. He was admitted to the hospital, put on oxygen, and had many tests done, all the while charming the ER staff with how calm and sweet he was, even in a strange place under so much stress. An x-ray of his chest revealed a mass in his chest, right above his heart.
Both his symptoms and the imaging are typical of a thymoma. A thymoma is a cancer of the thymus, an organ of the immune system. The tumor is compressing his lungs and heart. He is struggling to breathe, and his breathing remains rapid.
He is going to die unless I can raise the money for surgery and radiation. It's impossible to say how long he has, but it could be as short as a few weeks (with the starting point of that being May 21st).
I can't even begin to describe how precious Robbie is to me. He is so sweet natured. He charms every single person who sees him. He's friendly with just about everyone, and loves to snuggle and get attention. He's sassy, and mischievous, and loves to explore our house and go on adventures up and down the stairs. One of his favorite things to do is go on walks. I have a little harness and leash for him, and he loves being outside so much. He happily chows down on clover and dandelions, and will hop and binky (jumping up in the air; an expression of extreme joy for a rabbit) all over the place, with me racing along behind him.
He's not only my pet and a part of my family; he's also my emotional support animal. He calms me down when I'm upset, and he helps ground me. He cheers me up when I'm down. He keeps me going when I want to give up. If he hears me crying, he comes to me. Once he heard me crying from across the house and came out of our room, raced straight over to me, and sat right underneath my chair.
There's a terrible irony to the fact that he has cancer, because I'm fighting cancer too. I only just got back home after 6 weeks of radiation when I noticed he was very sick.
He's helped me so much, and given me the strength to fight back against my cancer. I desperately want to do the same for him, but I can't do it without help. I have several disabilities, aside from my cancer recovery, which keep me from being able to work at present. My family is already swamped with my own medical bills.
Please help me save him. I would be so incredibly grateful for your help. Even if you can only give a few dollars, that would be wonderful. If you can't contribute anything right now, please spread the word about this campaign and Robbie's story. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!
