Walking the European Peace Walk

The 2015 European Peace Walk

6 countries - 342 miles - 24 days!

More than 200 people are expected to register for the second annual European Peace Walk in commemoration of World War I & II.  The route will cover 342 miles and 6 countries, beginning in Austria and winding through Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, and Slovenia before ending at the Mediterranean Sea - an anticipated 24 day journey.

My name is Laura Scott.  I have registered to begin my walk in mid-August 2015 and am one of a few Americans who will have this opportunity this year.  I can’t wait to begin and be an American representative celebrating and promoting peace.  As a writer, I can't wait to share it with you.

The origin of the Peace Walk lay in Founder Grattan Lynch’s experience when he walked the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route in 2007.  At that time, he was touched by the genuine camaraderie that developed among participants from so many different cultures. Hungarians, French, Germans and Americans all mingled and enjoyed conversations that never would have taken place during the war years. Because of those moments, he decided to create a similar experience to commemorate World War I.

I am launching this fundraising campaign to raise $1,000 to help me cover travel costs associated with the experience.  In return, I will be documenting the experience with photography and writing which will be featured on my travel blog, a project I launched when I decided to change my life five years ago. www.RoamFarAndWide.com.

As I began my travels, I shared what I saw and learned through my writing and photographs via my blog. This blog has become a vehicle to inspire others to follow their dreams even if it means doing it solo.

I live simply and carry with me only what is absolutely necessary to sustain myself, my blog and my art. I see myself as a representation of the essential spirit that has made the United States the wonderful country that it is today - the capacity for innovation, visionary thought, courage, and independence. And as I embark on the European Peace Walk, I will continue to document my experiences through blog posts. The world will be walking this trail with me!

In exchange for any donation, I will write the name of any person or experience that the donor would like to make peace with, on a ribbon banner that I will carry the whole way.  It will be a walking prayer.

For any $50 donation, I will mention you as a "sponsor for a day" on my travel blog.

Your donation will not only help me with my Peace Walk costs, but will enable me to continue capturing my memories and the richness of life through my writing, my art and my photography. It will help me inspire others to harvest joy and embrace life’s possibilities. If we only have one life here on earth, let’s all live it to the fullest in global harmony!
