Hardrick Rivers is a Natchitoches music legend. Since age 13, he's been playing in and around Cane River, starting with Overton "Doctor Drip Drop" Owens, then backing B.B. Majors, and fronting his own bands, The Lighthouse Crew, Roque's Blues Band and the Rivers Revue.
A long-time diabetic, Hardrick is currently experiencing some serious health issues and has been unable to work or play very often. His medical and other bills are piling up, and his insurance coverage just doesn't cover much.
We are a group of his friends, students, fellow musicians and music lovers here in Natchitoches trying to help Hardrick and his family through this difficult time, and make sure he gets the health and other care he needs.
We're doing a series of performances paying tribute to the man through whose bands so many local and NSU musicians have passed and learned the joy and fulfilment of performing live music. We're also asking for your help during and after broadcast of some of these very special events to defer his costs and encourage him to keep his spirits up. We hope through these efforts to make sure he gets up and around Louisiana playing and teaching music as soon as possible. Obviously, the sooner the better, to make sure he stays out of financial trouble.
If you've heard Hardrick play over the years, you know just how special he is, and how much time and effort he's devoted to making music for the people, both in public performance and in teaching privately as well as leading the Red River High School Band.
