We are are Dewey and Alan and we live in Santa Rosa. We are busting ass to help members our community stay alive and to rebuild their lives after the horrible fires (This is our Phase II campaign. We already raised and distributed $6,000 in goods that supported evacuees in shelters).
First, we urge you to donate to the UndocuFund . But I know a lot of people trust us and want to see us run around becaue they know we deliver! That's cool too!
Donate here and we will use your CASH to buy and DISTRIBUTE gift cards, because that's what these families fucking need. Gift cards for gas stations, grocery stores, big box stores that carry all that everyday shit. NO iTunes bullshit here.
We are focusing on providing aid to those who are aren't able to access it through traditional means: domestic workers (the people that clean the fancy houses that burnt down or who clean those fancy hotel rooms in Sonoma), field workers (the people that picked the grapes for your delicious wine or your amazing farm-to-table produce), and undocumented folks. Unlike other victims of the fires that have scorched the area, undocumented immigrants do not qualify for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Lack of immigration status, limited English proficiency, and fear of immigration enforcement will also impede their access to disaster-relief services, even when they are eligible.
My strategy for distribution will be a combination of me and my team personally handing over these cards to folks and working with local organizing groups who are bringing aid to these lovely people. People that aren't accessing FEMA or their insurance companies because they don't and can't.
