Rare disorders hamper teacher

Valerie is not just a teacher. She is a loving wife, sister, daughter and mother to a beautiful six-year-old Chesepeake Bay Retriever, Jake. Jake is what gets her out of bed in the morning.
Unfortunately for her, she has a rare gastrointestinal disorder, coupled with painful neuropathy that sometimes limits what she can do.
Her neuropathy has greatly impacted how she lives.
Driving is no longer an option because doctors fear that she will lose control of her extremities at any given moment.
Family members drive her to doctor appointments, only to be greeted with more disappointment.
The doctors continue to pass the buck to other specialists, who cannot find a solution.
It is a case that is unprecedented — and, if someone has similar symptoms, they do not have the allergies she has to adhesives or certain medications.
She has had multiple surgery attempts to rebuild her intestines and abdominal wall to support her ostomy bag to no avail.
They are just a temporary fix until the doctors decide that they have to do it again. Her ostomy bag continulously becomes obstructed and she starts to feel excruciating pain.
She was forced to retire from her job as an elementary school teacher, a job she loves, due to her disability.
Not only does she have to deal with the medical problems, the insurance companies recently informed her that her medical supplies are not covered — and nor is her upcoming surgery because it is out of network.
If you can find it in your heart to help a kind soul like my sister, it would be greatly appreciated. She is a very loving and caring person who would do anything for anyone.
Plus, she has endured all of these hardships with a positive and fearless attitude.
But, with this most recent surgery, she needs some more angels in her corner.
