PLEASE HELP ME ADVOCATE FOR THE HOMELESS ON SKID ROW
Skid Row is comprised of roughly 50 city blocks of the greater downtown area. Unbelievably, at last estimate, 2,521 homeless persons live there. Over 55% of the population here has three or more disabilities indicating that these people face impossible barriers to overcoming their homelessness.
Unintentionally, in July 2014, I began my advocacy campaign by living homeless on the streets of downtown Orlando, Florida for 30 days. It became the most unique and impactful homeless awareness campaign in decades.
Since then, I have now lived homeless in 9 cities in Florida. The results of this on public perception have been unprecedented. The amount of new homeless service providers spawned is amazing.
### Homeless and Hungry Corporate Info###
Thomas Rebman, a retired Naval Officer and Orlando Middle School Teacher, is continuing his unique homeless advocacy campaign. Already living voluntarily homeless in 9 Florida Cities for a total of 75 days, he wants to highlight the impossibility of "working your way out of homelessness".
He has already had a major impact, in only 9 monthss by documenting his experience on Facebook. His advocacy has spawned numerous new homeless service agencies and groups throughout Florida and has also been responsible for changing the living conditions of thousands of homeless citizens!
Taking a 1 year sabbatical from teaching, he is embarking on his next adventure "Homeless in the United States".
