Helping the little Guy

Donation protected
This is Guy he is a extremely brave & delightful 6 years old who has been battling a brain tumour since he was 1 year old, unfortunately the tumour has come back again inspite of him already having 4 major tumour debulking operations & 2 very long cycles of chemotherapy  plus various other operations along the way, therefore the doctors are sending him for Proton therapy in the USA for 9 weeks after another tumour debulking operation in May.  We are trying to raise enough money to enable his family to go over with him & try and make this unpleasant situation as pleasant as possible for him.  Guys Daddy is self employed & his Mummy is his full time career so while he is away the family will not be receiving any income so all donations are greatly appreciated to help support the family during this difficult time.

More about Guy's battle:
Guy is an absolutely delightful little boy who unfortunately hasn't had the easiest of lives.  A few weeks before his 1st birthday Guy started to have little bouts of sickness, these in turn started to get worse & turned into littles seizures, so after a few weeks of going back & forth to the local hospital we was transferred to Royal Manchester Children's hospital where it was reported that Guy had developed epilepsy & a MRI scan had been arranged for him so the doctors could learn more.  This is where we learnt that Guy had a large tumour in his brain & this was causing him to have the seizures as it was causing to much pressure in his skull.  A few days later he was took into theatre to have his first of many operations.  Guy recovered quick from the op but his right side was effected temporarily.  They managed to remove most of the tumour but left a small portion as it was thought that it would not regrow, however 6 weeks later he began to suffer with small siezures again & he's right side grew weak again.  Another MRI scan showed that the tumour had regrown to pretty much it's original size.  He was booked in for another operation & started 18 months of chemotherapy.  Once again he was back on his feet within a few days but the right sided weakness in his body was this time permanent.
Throughout this 18 months Guy was his usual cheeky little self & wasn't fazed by what was happening to him.  He'd charmed all the nurses on Ward 84 & had them wrapped around his little finger.   We had a few overnight stays when his treatment was over 48hrs & when he would sometimes become unwell but this amazing little boy just took it all in his stride.
Once he's treatment was over the outlook looked great all the doctors were confident that the tumour should not regrow.  He was scaned every 3 month like he was while on treatment, the first scan showed everything was a success so as a family we breathed a sigh of relieve, life was starting to go back to normal.  However on his second scan the tumour had grown again & he was rebooked in for more surgery.
With this operation the surgeon told us he was going to take more of a risk & remove all visable signs of the tumour, which we consented too.  It took Guy a little longer to recover from the operation but once he was up there was no getting him back down, and the surgeon was confident that he had removed all the tumour.
A couple of weeks after this operation the swelling from the operation hadn't gone down so a VP shunt was inserted into his skull as he's body wasn't circulating the CSF fluid properly.  This, we hoped would be he's final operation.
Guy went for he's standard 3monthly scan and this showed the news we all dreaded, a small piece of tumour had been left & this had started to regrow so it was back to the operating theatre again.  Once again the surgeon said he would take more of a risk & explained the possible dangers of the operation.
Unfortunately the risks stated happen & Guys pituitary gland was permanently damanged, leaving him with multiple hormone deficiency, & diabetes insipidus   which is irreversible.  With this adds additional complications to the next surgery & will prevent him from bouncing back like all the previous times.
Despite all of the above which in summary amounts to 17 operations, 3 years of chemotherapy & some 20 tablets each & everyday Guy remains a happy & pleasant 6 year old whom is a joy to be around.
The next chapter in his long treatment plan is 9 weeks in a foreign country away from his family & friends to receive proton therapy.  The last 5 years have been tough for all Guys family & especially Guy, let's hope & pray that this is the last.
