Give Tim a Lift! (Joyce, too)

As many of you know, Tim and I are reunited childhood sweethearts, or as my 6-word memoir says, "First love lost, 14; married, 50." He has Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy Type 2 (MMD2), a slowly progressive muscle disease. We've done our best to live with his condition with humor and grace. We're both "overly independent," and my loving friends have let me know that this is (ahem!) not always a good thing. This GoFundMe page is my humble attempt to learn to ask for help. Up until recently, we have struggled on our own with the high expenses of disability, starting with lost wages and countless other costs.

Tim was walking with a walker until a health issue (unrelated to his MMD2) caused major muscle weakness in his "launch muscles," those that get him from sitting to standing. Unfortunately, he is now in a wheelchair which may or may not be permanent. He will soon get a power wheelchair assessment. In order to participate more fully in life and to have the mobility to cook, help around the house and do many other "normalized" activities, Tim wants to get a powerlift on his chair. Basically, it raises him to standing electronically, compensating for his "too weak to get to standing" condition. It would change our lives from a struggle with activities of daily living to a triumph of overcoming.
