Re: Assistance and support needed for Darren Harris, a long time employee of Mitchells Fruit.
We write you today in hope of your support for a very pressing and noble cause. Darren’s health has recently befallen on some very serious and life threatening times.
Darren has been with our company for over a decade, he has worked and treated the business and its staff as though it were his own. Long days, early mornings and never a complaint. Daily, people would admire the work ethic he portrayed and the manner in which he conducted himself. A smile was always present and he was the “go to man” for most when in need of a chat. Darren had the uncanny ability to work hard and socialise simultaneously, we have all had many a discussion with him, be it family, sport, work and even to the deepest of degree “relationships”. He would listen, advise, laugh and console. He is and has always been an inspiration to every individual that has crossed his path. Now in turn we need to DIG DEEP FOR DARREN as he would for others.
Darren was unexpectedly diagnosed with a rare strain of Streptococcal Infection, he was put into an induced coma and was suddenly in a fight for his life as his body attempted to fight off the infection. Through tireless times and much needed medical attention the doctors were able to subdue the virus, although it did come at a cost to Darren. Sadly as a result of this terrible event Darren has lost both his legs from the knees down, he has lost one arm and parts of the muscle and fingers in the other, we are deeply saddened and un fathoming of the difficult times that lay ahead for Darren and his family.
Over the weeks, this illness has drained the physical, emotional, and financial life out of the family’s ability to look beyond each day. What other hurdles may lay ahead; changing vehicle, prosthesis, house modifications, wheelchair, wheel chair access, rehabilitation, one can only imagine.
Darren is still in hospital as we write this letter awaiting heart surgery to fix a leaking valve in his heart. The family’s financial need is dire, and we are asking for the community to rally and assist in any way possible.
