Hello, my name is Michael Cadden, I write this for my lovely wife, Sinéad Anne Cadden, the love of my life.

A few weeks back I drove my wife to her doctor’s appointment to have a check up on a fairly routine eye procedure. It was an early morning for us. We are both bartenders, and we rarely see mornings, let alone breakfast. When I was courting Sinéad, breakfast dates were common, for years it was the only time we had off together. So when there’s an opportunity for us to go out to breakfast, I really look forward to it. A simple beautiful morning turned into the worst day, the pathology report plainly stated “Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.”This blindsided us, all the goals you have, the dreams of growing old together, seeing grandchildren grow, bartending barefoot at our own beachfront bar, another Christmas in Ireland, everything is put into question. Everything’s put on hold. But....everything keeps going on around you. There’s hardly any time to process what’s really happening, the ups and downs of the doctor’s visits, the waiting for news, any news. Will it be good.....or not. The past couple weeks have been a whirlwind of activity, which would usually hold off the emotions. But there’s this underlying knowledge, maybe feeling is a better word. I’ve been here before with my family, is this the same fecking thing that took my parents from me, the parents my wife never really got to know. Will her children’s spouses ever get to meet the most wonderful mother, wife, person ever to walk this earth? I hope so...she is strong, the strongest.

Strong helps. She puts on the strongest face, makes light of it, and make you belly laugh. She goes to work on the busiest day of the year, and entertains like no one can. She still remembers you from that one time she served you ten years ago. She’ll tell you who was sitting next to you, and what they were drinking. She reassures everyone she comes in contact with...she is strong. Feck Cancer!

This is the hardest part for both of us, asking for help. We are the ones that help, we don’t ask for it. But now, at this point, we humbly ask for help. Days missed mean no paycheck, no tips. Bills add up quick, even with our insurance. It does not have to be much, every little bit helps. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
