EarthLab Sustainable Urban Farm

EarthLab is a non-profit organization under the direction of GroundWorks San Diego and partnered with UCSD. EarthLab is located in an urban city environment, attached to Millenial Tech Middle School. It is a 4-acre parcel of land that, through a small number of employees, interns and volunteers, is being turned into an interactive landscape that will demonstrate how to live sustainably and prepare students for the 8 million STEM jobs predicted to be available by 2018. Roughly 1/3 of an acre is dedicated to Sustainable Urban Farming where the Farm Manager and a handful of unpaid interns and volunteers are working to turn an empty plot of land into a suscessful crop producing, sustainable, urban farm. WE NEED YOUR HELP! We have limited funds and are in need of supplies in order to start sustainably growing healthy, organic food.

We are asking for $5000 in order to purchase the following supplies and incidentals that arise when starting an urban farm from scratch:

Greenhouse(s)
Greenhouse irrigation
Greenhouse temperature and humidity controls (fans and vents)
Broadfork and hand-tilling equipment
Hand-held garden tools
Irrigation supplies
Row Cover
Seeds
Seeders
Temperature and Humidity gauges
Planting trays
Compost Thermometers
Storage Units
Harvesting equipment
Washing station equipment
Building supplies

There is a lot of equipment, big and small, that is needed to start and run a farm. Sure, we don't need a tractor, but we need plenty of stuff to make up for not having a tractor! :)
