The PURPLE ROSE CAMPAIGN is an international campaign initiated by transnational feminist organization's Gabnet and Af3irm raising awareness in opposition of sex trafficking and forced labor of women and children. A systematic threat to women and children is a call for everyone’s voice as a stand in advocacy and justice. Violence against youth of color is a woman’s concern and trafficking of women and children is everyone’s concern.
SEX TRAFFICKING: Sex trafficking is a systematic transport of humans across borders within and
outside the country for the purpose of trade in sex, that usually leads to prostitution of victims with or without their knowledge. In most cases, force, intimidation and deception are used on the victims.
GLOBAL TRADE IN WOMEN & CHILDREN: Women and Children are willingly or unwillingly exploited as underpaid workers in sweatshops, sold as mail order brides, and messengers in drug trade business.
Over 1,000 are missing women in Canada. Femicide is a growing phenomenon across Latin America, the Philippines and Caribbean. Undocumented women are murdered worldwide and violence against women and children related to trafficking are overwhelmingly unreported.
PURPLE ROSE ICON: For over 30 years, horticulturists hybridized roses to create the perfect purple rose. No different from any other rose, except purple rose is exoticized and set apart by human will. Existing not for its own evolutionary purpose but for the pleasure of others. This represents the harvesting of our women and children who are forced into becoming a created stereotyped to serve the needs of globalization – a thing for other’s use.
