It is often hard to imagine what life is like for others outside of your community.
Disease. Poverty. Loss.
Contaminated water is the leading cause of death worldwide, and is a reality that many live in.
Basic necessities like clean drinking water is a privilege that is only enjoyed by a select few regions. 1/9 people in the world do not have access to clean drinking water, leading to the death of 3.4 million people annually.
Imagine this: turning your tap on to expect clean and safe drinking water, instead, you get a tarnished and muddy fluid. Clean drinking water is a privilege that we seem to take for granted every day, while millions of people around the world hope and pray for it.
So what can we do to reverse the cycle of poverty?
Project Releaf is a social initiative developed by Enactus Windsor that aims to increase the quality of life in developing communities. By providing individuals with the resources and education necessary to create a business focused on ceramic water filter production and distribution, we are empowering them to tackle water related issues close to home.
However, we realize that with big aspirations comes costs. In order to launch the project in our pilot location, Marite, South Africa, we require the funding to purchase the facilities to produce and store water filters, cover costs associated with consulting partner organizations, and start-up materials. The goal of this campaign is to raise $40,000 to pay for the aforementioned costs. The costs are broken down as follows:
$20,000 - Potters for Peace consultancy
$10,000 - Land, equipment, facilities
$10,000 - Start-up materials
So let’s work together to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. Let’s aspire to create a community of hope and opportunity...to bring a brighter future to Marite. Together, we can create an everlasting impact and save lives. Together, we can support #CleanWaterForAfrica.
