WE RAISED THE FUNDS FOR THE POWER! Now let's raise funds for scholarships to emPOWER women! We have increased the goal so that beyond the $6000 needed for power, we can provide scholarships to 10 young women to continue their education beyond grade six.
We are a group of passionate college students from the University of Mary Washington looking to be agents of change by bringing power to a new agroecology center constructed by Community Cloud Forest Conservation for its Conservation and Agroecology Leadership Training (CALT) program. With your help, we can provide electricity for the center, which is located east of Cobán, Guatemala, and the young women who study and teach there.
This program educates young women from isolated villages in the Central Highlands about the environment and sustainable farming practices. It also empowers them through a 25-day workshop on a range of issues including building self-esteem and self-confidence, growing and preparing nutritious food, crop management, environmental monitoring, and putting into practice what they have learned at the center in their home villages. In addition, these young women have the opportunity to teach both one another and local school children, as well as leading by example in their villages. The chief limitation for the expansion of this program is the need for POWER!
By helping to fund this project, you are investing in a sustainable hydroelectric turbine to provide POWER to the center where the teaching and learning takes place. CCFC will use the electricity provided by the turbine for lighting in the center, running computers and a projector used for teaching, and simply making the center a better place to house students and for educating school children from local rural villages.
All additional funds raised will go to support CCFC's educational and scholarship programs.
