Pizza + Money for LGBTQ Writers

Donation protected
Let's buy LGBTQ writers in Indiana a pizza—and some writing time!

If a pizza parlor in northern Indiana can raise nearly a million dollars in two days for vowing to deny service to same-sex weddings, we can build a fund to grant writers time to focus on their craft.

Announcing the Engine Books Writers' Fund. With this fund, boutique fiction press Engine Books will provide grants to LGBTQ writers living in Indiana while they work on book manuscripts in fiction, memoir, and poetry.

And buy each recipient a pizza.

Indiana does a poor job funding the arts, and is even worse at supporting writers. And if we've learned anything this week, it's that this can't be an easy place to be a member of the LGBTQ community. So let's make it a little easier. We're kicking off the fund with this campaign, and will keep it going year-round. Then, at the end of each calendar year, we'll split whatever money we have in the fund (minus administrative costs) among winning applicants as determined by our reading committee. (We're building that committee now, and will update once it's in place.)

If, like us, you watched what happened this week in Indiana and wished there was something you could do to actually help the people fighting for equality, join us in building this fund.

We even promise it'll be good pizza.
