Piojo: A Life Ended Too Soon

Donation protected
As many of you know, I have been working on a long-term project  on transgender women in Lima. I recently met someone who has been infected with Tuberculosis and AIDS and is in dire need. When I walked into Piojo’s dark room last week, I quickly realized she has next to nothing.

Because she has no Identification Card--a very common occurrence among transgender people--she was denied urgent medical care and only recently began taking medicine. She weighs 80 lbs. She has no cell phone, no light, not even toilet paper. As she has no way to work, she has no income to pay for her room, food, medicine and other necessities. Though her story seems tragic, she is a fighter, as you can see from her photo. I know she will come out of this situation stronger.

I am hoping I can organize donations for her, whether they be monetary or not. Even $10 would be a huge help--for example, her room costs $7 a day.

At this point, she is looking at a year of recovery. It will be a long road but anything is possible when taken one step at a time.

Thank you so much and sending you all a lot of love from Peru.
