Opening Doors at the Passage House

Meet Darla, a local resident and mother to a beautiful girl named
Gabrielle. Darla and Gabrielle have greatly benefited from the Passage House, a Covenant House Alaska Transitional Living program, which offers residence for up to 18 months for young women who are pregnant or parenting. During that time, they acquire the necessary skills and resources to become productive, successful, independent adults who can care for themselves and their families.
We are so inspired by the work delivered at the House and how it has restored lives, that we decided to team up with them, to help support other young mothers and children in need in our community, just like Darla and Gabrielle.
Here's what Darla, now a renewed and strong mother, has to say about her experience at the House and how much closer she is to building a healthy future for her and her daughter...
"While at Passage House I have participated in parenting classes and learned many life skills. I have also participated in the Early Literacy program with my daughter and now really value the time Gabrielle and I spend together reading. I was also able to teach her baby signs!
Another skill I also gained was the ability to work and live with others.
Passage House has helped me build meaningful relationships, and I
have also been able to reestablish strong ties with my family so that I can continue to have them as part of my support system.
I have continued on that path to self-sufficiency and am currently
preparing to graduate from the Passage House Program and move
into a place of my own. As I prepare to leave, I am striving to achieve additional goals. One is to establish myself in a career, working in the medical health services. Achieving my goals is important to me because I have dreams, as well. One such dream is to buy a home of my own and to continue a healthy life with my daughter."
