Parent Project Facilitator Training

It's been my dream for many years to facilitate parenting classes "“ particularly for high risk families. I want to attend The Parent Project's Facilitator Training program in Ontario, California from October 20 through 24, 2014. I'll have to take a week of unpaid leave in order to attend, plus the cost of transportation, lodging and the $750 registration fee.
Why do I want to do this?
I worked as a Family Advocate in Lake County, California, and facilitated parenting classes. It was my favorite part of my position there. But I struggled with how few resources there are for parents of older and/or high risk children and for those who had tried the techniques recommended in our classes and they just weren't enough. When my own daughter became a teenager, I found myself in the same predicament. Where could I get the help I needed? Was I really the only parent dealing with a seemingly out-of-control teenager?
There are a few classes in my area but I'd like to offer additional classes and work with as many agencies as I can to help remove barriers for parents. I'd also like to bring this training to the Sacramento area in the future so we have even more knowledgeable resources. Parents need a place to feel safe, to learn they aren't alone, and to learn new skills.

What is Parent Project?
This is a program created specifically for parents with difficult or out-of-control adolescents. Parents learn and practice specific prevention and intervention strategies for destructive behaviors - truancy, alcohol and other drug use, gangs and other criminal behavior, running away, violence and suicide.
