"Here Comes the Sun" Walk

Donation protected
Students in a class at East Aurora High School entitled “Survivor Literature”  have been studying literature from major historical events where survival was at a premium.  This year they have become interested in mental illness and suicide prevention.  We have read the book, Cracked, Not Broken by Kevin Hines, in which he details his struggles with bi-polar disorder as well as his story of his survival after attempting suicide by leaping from the Golden Gate Bridge.  Kevin has already committed to visiting East Aurora High School on April 28, and we are raising funds for that visit.  We are also fundraising to continue to raise awareness for mental illness and suicide prevention.

To raise the funds, as well as to raise awareness for what people deal with on a daily basis, we have created the “Here Comes the Sun” Out of the Darkness Walk during which approximately 150 students and faculty members will walk 16 miles from Wheaton to Aurora.  The walk will conclude at RiverEdge Park in Aurora at sunrise on April 17th.

The purpose is to not only raise money and awareness, but also to symbolize the darkness that so many live with on a daily basis.
