OptOutUS Georgetown, TX

OptOutUS Georgetown, TX offers scholarships via lottery to Georgetown ISD students who opt out of STAAR standardized testing. Here is how the program works:

Students currently enrolled in Georgetown ISD grades 3-12  send in an application and are entered into a pool of qualified candidates. Throughout the year several $100 "instant scholarships" will be awarded to students via lottery from the pool. At the end of the school year, one scholarship of AT LEAST $1,000 (and potentially much more, based on donations received) will be awarded via lottery to one student.

OptOutUS Georgetown, TX  accepts donations from all over the U.S.  We encourage contributions from those who are passionate about eliminating standardized testing. OptOutUS Georgetown, TX is the first OptOutUS program to be launched. Hopefully,  dozens of independent scholarship programs will launch all over the country in the coming months and years.)

Scholarship Requirements:
-Student is currently enrolled in grades 3-12 in Georgetown, TX ISD.
-Email your principal, and cc OptOutUS Georgetown, TX, advising that you (or your child) will be opting out of all STAAR testing and makeup tests. (See the easy application form below.)
-Attach to the email a video submission of 60 seconds or less, OR written essay, explaining why you are opting out.
-Do not take the STAAR test any time it is offered throughout the year.

Application Form:
The email you send to your principal and cc [email redacted]  IS YOUR APPLICATION FORM. Simple!
In that email, include the following:
-Name of student
-Name of parent
-Student grade level
-Email address
-Mailing address
-Street address
-Phone number
-School name
-School district
-Attach video or essay to the email

Selection Criteria:
-Once above requirements are met, the student’s name will be placed in a pool of qualified applicants from which scholarship winners will be chosen at random by Trevor Eissler.

Relevant Dates:
Launch: September 12, 2018
Last day to turn in application: April 9, 2019
Instant Scholarships: several $100 awards throughout the year
