One Woman Rescue - Coco and Patches

Donation protected

Cookie and her pups were abandoned in the dead of night on a hilly road with sharp curves notorious for cars taking them at higher speeds than required.

The pups were barely a month old, so small you could barely notice them on the dark road. Cookie was terrified, barking at everyone and everything.

Thanks to the efforts of a brave security guard and myself, we managed to get the puppies off the road that first night. Then I returned with a friend to get Cookie off the road and into a foster home, along with a 5-month-old male that was accompanying her.

That was towards the end of January. We've been trying to get these wonderful dogs to Lost Dog and Cat Rescue in Virginia, but we've met with many unforeseen obstacles along the way; this is on top of getting Cookie and Sirius (the  5 month old male) vaccinated and spayed to making sure everyone is at peak health and parasite free.

We were so sure we'd be able to send them by February-March, but then we had a bout of sarcoptic mange that hit everyone, the puppies the hardest. It took a few weeks and more vet visits but finally, everyone was given the all clear by the vet. We thought we were home free to send them.

Then, a few nights ago I was informed that the puppies weren't eating. They were lethargic, barely standing. I was only mildly worried when I heard since they had been completely healthy a few days before. I thought maybe they just missed their mother (who had been staying with me for a few weeks). But when I went to check on them at 830pm I knew something was wrong. They were almost skin and bones. Visibly exhausted and wouldn't even attempt to eat some of the wet food I had brought. They weren't even excited to see their mother.

A few hours later at the emergency vet clinic nearby, my worst fears were realized. The puppies were positive for Parvovirus.

They were hospitalized immediately.

It seems we caught it just in time, by the next day one of the puppies was already able to eat. By the time I visited on the second day of their hospital stay both of them were more alert and active.

I'm hoping they'll be able to be discharged from the hospital today (April 12).

This is where you come in. This was a hospital fee we were not anticipating. We had been barely able to raise any funds for the air fare, travel certificates and crates we would need to send everyone over to Virginia.  Now, we're looking at a $500+ hospital bill, on top of follow up visits, and the cost of sending them to Virginia.

We really need your help in order to save these wonderful dogs. Any amount helps. Spread this around to your friends, family, anyone you think would be able to help.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for reading. I hope you are able to donate or share this information around.

Let's save these wonderful dogs!!!
