Bullwinkle: One Love Animal Rescue

Donation protected
Bullwinkle with One Love Animal Rescue has a sweet face and a broken heart, literally, he needs a heart procedure to fix his pulmonary valve!

Bullwinkle is only 8 months old. He was left at animal control by his owner who discarded him like yesterday's trash. Luckily,  One Love Animal Rescue ‌ removed him to be placed in a no-kill shelter. There he was rejected again when they found he had a severe heart murmur. Knowing that returning poor Bullwinkle to animal control where overcrowded conditions were against his odds of survival,  One Love ‌ took in Bullwinkle as their own! Our local vet diagnosed Bullwinkle with a  grade 5 heart murmur . With your generous donations so far we were able to get him to cardiac specialist, Dr. Jesty, at Charleston Veterinary Referal Center for a heart ultrasound and full evaluation to find the souce of the murmur and determne next steps (One Love ‌ is a no-kill rescue ).

Bullwinkle has an abnormal pulmonary valve and without surgery, may live  to be about middle age. We need to raise  an additional $6,500 for Bullwinkle's balloon dilation vavuloplasty.
Getting our diagnosis from from Dr. Jesty

"Bullwinkle has an abnormal valve that is severely obstructing normal blood flow from the right side of the heart, called pulmonic stenosis , a heart defect he was born with. This causes the right ventricle to work harder than usual which can lead over time to congestive heart failure or irregular heart rythms (collaps, sudden death). If heart failure or arrhythmia causes symptoms, it usually occurs in middle age, although younger dogs like Bullwinkle can be afected. His right ventricle wall has already thickened. The treatment of choice is procedure called balloon dilation vavuloplast, which uses a high pressure balloon to break the valve open to enlarge the opening for more blood flow."

Bullwinkle has been started on a Beta-blocker medication to slow his heart rate and decrease the work of the right heart until we can raise the funds for his surgery. Dr. Jesty says it is importnat that he has the procedure now while he is young and his heart is still in good condition.

He continues to show no signs of weakness or suffering. We went for an hour long hike in the woods together at a pretty good pace with no problems. He actually wanted to take the lead for most of our walk and chase after an armadillo or two - he appears to be in better shape than I am!!!

Please help us raise these funds for Bullwinkle's surgery. He's a loving a sweet boy who deserves a chance to live a long life full of walks in the woods! Give what you can and if you can't give, please share this story with others!
