Stacey's Medical Expense Fund

Stacey Combs is one of the most beautiful people I know. There aren't even words to describe Stacey. She is selfless. She is brilliant. She is kind. She is beautiful. She is hilarious. She is strong. She is resilient. She is Stacey.

Stacey is our rock. She is always the calm during the storm. She keeps our heads level and reminds us to dance in the rain. Stacey is always thinking about everyone around her. Stacey loves life. She loves her family more than anything in the world. She loves her dogs. She loves her friends. She loves good music, good books, good movies.

Stacey loves to help. She loves to help anyone she can and would do so without question. It's our turn. It's our turn to help Stac.

Summer of 2014, Stacey was diagnosed with Stage IV Synovial Sarcoma. Synovial Sarcoma is a very rare form of cancer. She had a tumor in her abdomen and went through surgery to have it removed. After surgery her doctor determined the cancer had already metastasized to her lungs.

Stacey is 32 years young.

Stac began chemotherapy to attempt to shrink and kill the cancer. She went through sessions Monday - Friday, as if it was a full time job. After several months of chemo, Stacey's doctor did a scan to check the status of the cancer. It had grown.

Her chemo was changed to a different medication and cycles began again. Her sessions weren't as frequent this time but this medication made her much sicker.

If any of you have known someone to go through chemotherapy -- it is far from easy. Typically people suffer from nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. Fatigue. Blood counts drop so low that the patient must receive shots to stimulate their bone marrow to work harder. These shots cause severe bone pain, worse than you could ever imagine. Chemo can cause insomnia. Chemo causes your hair to fall out. Quite honestly - chemo sucks.

But Stacey will never tell you that.

Each day she can, Stacey puts on her wig, forces herself to get up and out of the house and comes to work. She is battling Stage IV cancer. She is undergoing chemo treatments and the girl still gets up, puts on a smile and comes to work.

She amazes me.

The last week in February, Stacey had another chemo treatment. On February 27, 2015 she ended up in our local hospital, admitted for a pulmonary embolism, which is a blood clot in the lung. Stacey had to stay at the hospital and her heart and lungs were monitored for several days. She now has to take blood thinners.

Stacey saw her Oncologist (cancer doctor) when she was discharged from the hospital. Her doctor informed her that the scan that revealed her pulmonary embolism also revealed that the smaller masses in her lungs appear to have grown.

As of today, there is talk about Stacey starting an oral chemotherapy medication. This medication is very expensive.

In the past 10 months, Stacey has been able to keep up with most of the bills with help from the paycheck she gets from working through all of this and the small fundraisers we have been able to do for her. Now, it isn't enough.

Stacey should NOT have to worry about going to work to pay her medical bills. Stacey should not have to stress about how to pay for these medications that are necessary for her wellbeing.

If you're reading this, please consider donating. Whatever you can, even if it is only $5. Stacey would never ask for help and it's our turn to show her that we can help her. It's our turn to be the calm in the storm.

We love you, Stacey Combs. #StacStrong #SarcomaAwareness
