Garrett Needs Help - Medical Bills!

Donation protected
A typical teenager ... a basketball game ... an elbow to the chin ... a concussion ... one year ago today and the nightmare continues!...

No teenager should have to experience pain so severe that he writhes in pain on the floor, screaming until he blacks out from the pain. No parent should have to stand by, agonizing, feeling the empty feeling of helplessness as you're powerless to take away your baby's pain, powerlessness made even worse when the doctors -- the experts -- throw up their hands informing you they don't know of anything else to do to help him. And no younger sisters should have to endure screams at night, unable to sleep, afraid, hearing your brother calling out in excruciating pain. The dogs try to cuddle up to him and surround Garrett in love, but now one of them is so scared he pees on the floor during these bouts.

Meanwhile Garrett mostly cannot attend school and this normally bright honors student struggles to stay up on the work in his 4 core classes hoping not to fall behind a year in school. Music can be unbearable to hear and lights -- even when dim -- too bright to be around. His friends come visit less and less, probably not knowing what to say or how to handle the struggle they see happening right in front of them, even on a "good day."

Mom and Dad are trying everything ... pediatricians, general practitioners and osteopaths, emergency room docs, functional neurologists, pediatric neurologists, cranial sacral therapy, concussion specialists, alternative medicine, chiropractors, magnet therapy, mental therapy, darkness, quiet, special diets, hypnotherapy. The tests Garrett has been through have included an MRI of his head, a CT, a VEMP, an ENG, an MRI of his neck, an MRA of his neck/vascular structure, an MRI of his abdomen, an EEG, a somatic evoked nerve potential exam, extensive blood work and other tests. They are now looking into the Mayo Clinic and other more extreme measures.... Insurance only covers so much, and doesn't cover incidental expenses and non-traditional forms of treatment. And, of course, the bills are mounting.

In 2014, their out-of-pocket medical co-pays alone exceeded $11,000. Then there were the costs that insurance did not cover at all. TOTAL OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS SO FAR HAVE EXCEEDED $35,000. His Dad has taken on more hours at a second job -- in addition to a full-time job -- to try to cover expenses, and his Mom works part-time in addition to taking care of their three children. They've refinanced their assets that could be refinanced. But the money is just not enough.

We are friends and fitness students of Mom Staci. For years we've heard of all the giving they've done, selflessly running fundraisers and promoting other causes. Now they're the ones who are in need.  The family would appreciate any monetary help, however small, and would appreciate prayers for Garrett and the entire family. We believe God will guide Garrett and his family through this, with help from all of us. Thank you so much for any donation you provide!
