Robert and Kristy Walters met in 1999 and were married two years later, when they were both 21. Eager to start a family, they welcomed their first son, Dylan, the very next year. Dylan was born several weeks early at only 32 weeks, but grew healthy and strong despite staying in the hospital for several weeks following his birth. Today, he is an amazing young man. His grades are exceptional, he is obedient to his parents, and a great support to his family. His parents couldn’t wait to have more children like him.

When Dylan turned three years old, Robert and Kristy were thrilled to discover that they were expecting another child. However, tragedy struck when their second son was born at only 22 weeks gestation, and lived only three days. Colton passed away
peacefully in his mother’s arms, surrounded by his heartbroken family. It was then that Kristy was diagnosed with cervical competence, a condition that greatly decreased her ability to carry a child to full term.

Even though the diagnosis was hard to take, Robert and Kristy felt sure their family was not yet complete. Their decision took time, but three years later, armed with
years of research and discussion, they decided to try again. Kristy spent her entire pregnancy on bed rest, under careful medical supervision. Following 32 weeks of weekly doctor visits and an in-utero surgical procedure, they welcomed a beautiful baby girl. Hailey was only 3 lbs. 10 oz. at birth and dealt with a number of health concerns, including a hole in her heart. Robert and Kristy faced a long two-month hospital stay before they were able to take home their perfect little daughter.

From the day she was born, Hailey has blessed and inspired her family with her spunky, sweet personality. But just a few months into her life, Robert and Kristy became concerned that she was not reaching developmental milestones. A visit to the hospital when she was six months old confirmed a life-changing diagnosis. Robert and Kristy were informed that 80% of Hailey’s gray matter was damaged, resulting in quadriplegic spastic dysplasia cerebral palsy. From that moment on, Hailey’s life has been composed primarily of doctor’s offices. From physical therapy and occupational therapy to eye surgery, tendon surgery, casts on both legs, and more, she has faced a lot of adversity in her short life. However, you’d never know that from her personality. Hailey is smart. She is quick witted. She loves everyone she meets and is very independent. Unfortunately, that independence is currently
restricted, due to the fact that she is wheelchair bound.

Right now, it takes two people to lift Hailey’s wheelchair out of Robert and Kristy’s current vehicle, so Hailey’s mobility has been extremely limited. And although she occasionally practices with a walker for exercise and to reduce hip dysplasia, she spends 95% of her life in her chair. Having a wheelchair-accessible van would be life changing for Hailey. It would offer her a new level of freedom and a better quality of life. And more importantly, it would allow her more opportunities to spread her infectious enthusiasm for life. Help us help Hailey spread her wings
